A few of our recent projects are summarized below:
BC Hydro — Energy Awareness Program
The Strategic Energy Group designed and delivered a full day workshop to help Power Smart Partner's develop and implement an energy awareness program inside their organization. The workshop is based on BC Hydro's "Power Smart Employee Awareness Planning Guide, Keys to Success". It is designed to help the participants understand how to plan and implement employee awareness programs, as well as prepare a plan for their organization. The workshop also introduces the tools and resources (BC Hydro and other) available to them as they implement the program. Mr. Hamilton and Mr. Birch delivered and facilitated the workshops for BC Hydro.
Connecticut Energy Conservation Management Board
Mr. Tumidaj currently serves as the Commercial & Industrial Energy Conservation Technical Advisor to the Board in its review of Connecticut’s Conservation and Load Management Programs. His activities include C&I program review and monitoring, program and budget planning, assessment of utility reports and evaluations, interaction with utility program staff, and reporting to the Board on program effectiveness.
Energy Trust of Oregon — Production Efficiency Program Impact Evaluation
Mr. Scott and Mr. Crumrine completed an impact evaluation of the Energy Trust of Oregon's Production Efficiency program (2003-2005). The PE Program is unique in how it encourages energy efficiency through major process changes – for example by providing incentives for an entirely new recycled pulp de-inking process. This impact evaluation included survey and electrical metering activities at over 80 industrial sites around the state of Oregon.
Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance — Industrial Efficiency Alliance
The Strategic Energy Group is very involved in the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance's industrial sector initiative, known as the Industrial Efficiency Alliance. The Industrial Efficiency Alliance seeks to incorporate continuous improvement strategies and tactics into the comprehensive management of energy in the pulp and paper and food processing sectors. Mr. Birch is the Food Processing Channel Director and, with the help of Mr. Crumrine and Mr. Tumidaj, develops continuous energy improvement programs at over 25 food processing facilities throughout the Northwest. Mr. Hamilton provides strategic planning and management services for the initiative. Mr. Scott and Mr. Volkman both provide technical strategy services in support of continuous energy improvement programs in both industrial sectors.
Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance — Better Building Operations
Mr. Volkman has been involved in all phases of the development of this effort, from strategic planning to implementation. Better Building Operations is a market transformation initiative sponsored by the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance and focused on improving commercial building performance through improved O&M and engineering services. The approach is to simultaneously encourage demand for improved building operating performance through proving the value of these services, while building service provider capabilities to supply appropriate services through our trade ally network.
Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance — Industrial Market Strategy
Messrs Hamilton, Scott, Tumidaj, and Volkman all served as senior members of the team assessing market transformation opportunities and priorities for the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance. Tasks included the identification of market transformation opportunities from a technology, market sector and business practices perspectives, and subsequent development of market transformation strategies, budgets and action plans. This study provided the basis for NEEA’s next cycle of industrial market transformation initiatives.
Pacific Gas & Electric — Compressed Air Program
Mr. Hamilton conceived of, and developed, the current compressed air program concept being delivered to PG&E under the "Ecos Air" brand. This program is a performance based contract with PG&E and Ecos Consulting. The program includes a unique sales and screening approach to identify eligible customers, an audit process that determines accurate savings, and a delivery model that encourages customers to move from the audit to the implementation process.
